November Academy Affiliate Club Spotlight: Sporting Blue Valley
CLUB BIO
Sporting Blue Valley has provided opportunities for youth to get involved in soccer since 1977. Originally Blue Valley Soccer Club, Sporting Blue Valley became an Academy Affiliate in 2011.
Sporting Blue Valley is based at Scheels Overland Park Soccer Complex and strives to introduce the game of soccer to youth of all ages and skills levels.
Various programs exist to help young players to develop to their full potential, including recreational and competitive programs, camps and more.
CLUB RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- SBV Wales 09 Girls won National President’s Cup
- Ten players recently signed their National Letters of Intent
- SBV TEAMSoccer – a program that pairs players with physical and/or mental challenges with adults to learn the game of soccer
- SBV Staff were interviewed by KCTV5 about bringing the World Cup to Kansas City
COACH SPOTLIGHT
Gareth Hughes
Coach, Academy 09, Academy 08, Tottenham 04
Gareth is the High School Boys Director and has over 36 years of coaching experience. He has extensive experience across soccer and is an expert in the game.
His experience and knowledge allows him to develop his players and prepare them as players and as individuals.
Gareth’s commitment to Sporting Blue Valley and his players makes him a positive role model for all of his teams.
Hailey LaCroix
Coach, Juventus 13, San Lorenzo 12, Bordeaux 11, PSV 10, Turkey 07
Hailey works with 50+ of our young female players and commits her time and experience to help them grow.
She has taken on five teams, which is no easy task, but Hailey’s determination to help her plays become the best on and off the field shines through at every game, practice and team event.
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT
Santino Barberena
Goalkeeper, Academy 09 & Sporting KC Academy
Santino is an accomplished Goalkeeper and was called up to the Sporting KC Academy to compete at the next level.
Sydney Watts
Player, ECNL 03/04
Sydney was recently selected to play in the ECNL National Selection Game in San Diego. She also recently attended the USWNT U17 camp in California.
Sydney has verbally committed to play for Vanderdbilt University.
