Sporting City West announces Matt Busch as Director of Coaching and Tammy Stauffer as Club Administrator

After launching as a new Sporting Kansas City Academy Affiliate earlier this week, Sporting City West is excited to announce Matt Busch as Director of Coaching and Tammy Stauffer as Club Administrator.

“I’d like to officially welcome Matt and Tammy to Sporting Kansas City and Sporting City West.  Both Matt and Tammy bring immense experience and expertise to their areas of the club,” said Dan Popik, Sporting KC Vice President, Youth Business Development.

Busch and Stauffer will play leading roles in their new positions at Sporting City West, a competitive youth soccer club that will primarily serve players and families in West Olathe, Lenexa, Shawnee and surrounding communities in Kansas City, Kansas.

“I am extremely excited and honored to be joining the Sporting KC Youth family as the Director of Coaching, Sporting City West,” Busch said. “The forward-thinking mentality illustrated by the Sporting KC Youth staff is unmatched within youth soccer and I embrace the opportunity to bring my knowledge of the game, youth player development and coaching education to Sporting City West to develop the club’s mission, vision and philosophy for the players, coaches and families in this professionally run youth organization. I look forward to arriving in Kansas City and beginning our journey to implement the Sporting Way for our players in our communities while being part of the great soccer culture in Kansas City.”

“To be part of a notable club at Sporting Kansas City and to help expand the Academy Affiliate program has been a life-long dream,” Stauffer said. “The culture instilled throughout Sporting Kansas City radiates from professional to youth and I couldn’t be more excited to join the family as Club Administrator, Sporting City West. This role will allow me to use my operations experience in youth sports to ensure that our SCW players, families and coaches have the best experience and support off the field. Under the phenomenal leadership at Sporting Kansas City, I am eager to grow Sporting City West alongside Matt Busch, Director of Coaching.”

Busch, who currently serves as a U.S. Soccer Youth National Team scout and a member of the U.S. Soccer National Coaching Education staff, has a wealth of youth coaching experience and holds a U.S. Soccer A License, a National Youth License, an NSCAA National License and a Grassroots Instructor License.

“Matt’s involvement at all levels of the game will be such a valuable benefit to the players in our club. As the Director of Coaching, he will have a direct impact on each player’s individual development and growth, along with guiding the direction of the club,” Popik said.

At earlier stops in his youth coaching career, Busch was the Executive Director and a head coach at Inter Atlanta FC, Technical Director at Chesapeake United, and Director of Coaching at both Virginia Rush and Atlantic Soccer Club. He was also an Olympic Development Program coach for the East Region and the states of Georgia and Virginia.

At the men’s and women’s level, Busch was previously head coach of the Virginia Beach Piranhas in the Premier Development League, head coach of Virginia Beach City FC in the Women’s Premier Soccer League, and assistant coach of the Virginia Beach City FC men’s team in the National Premier Soccer League.

Stauffer has extensive operations and administrative experience at previous roles in the sport of soccer. She was a Director of Operations at Illinois Fire Juniors and Lionsbridge FC in Virginia and also spent time at SKC Academy Affiliate Sporting Kaw Valley, where she specialized in operations, served as an academy girls coach at the U-9 and U-10/12 levels and was a camp director.

“Tammy comes highly recommended and has already had an impact in the launch of Sporting City West through our website and social media channels. Her knowledge in managing a youth soccer club from a communication and operational standpoint will be a tremendous asset for the club and its members,” Popik said.

Stauffer earned her master’s degree in Kinesiology and Recreation at Illinois State University after receiving her bachelor’s degree in Sport Management at the University of Kansas.

Sporting City West will debut during the 2021-2022 season, featuring boys and girls teams at the U-8 (2014) through U-12 (2010) levels. The competitive club will expand its age group offerings each season moving forward. Tryouts for the 2021-22 season will be held June 8-9, 2021.
