April Academy Affiliate of the Month: Sporting Wichita

Club Bio

Sporting Wichita was founded in 2002 as the Wichita Rojos Soccer Club, starting out with just one team. In the past 20-years, Sporting Wichita has grown to have 50 teams for boys and girls, 3-19 years old.

Sporting Wichita joined as an Academy Affiliate in 2014 and since its founding, has become one of the largest youth soccer clubs in the area.

The players and families that make up Sporting Wichita are diverse and represent various parts of the Wichita metro area, as well as parts of western Kansas and Texas.

The mission of Sporting Wichita is to provide a quality soccer environment that is fun and educational for each player. The club is committed to helping players develop their skills through professional and educated coaching staff.

Sporting Wichita focuses on sportsmanship, teamwork, solidarity, friendship and loving the game of soccer.

Recent Accomplishments

  • Grew girls program by 40% and hired Girls Program Coordinator
  • Became a US Youth Fustal affiliate
  • Two players called up to SKC Academy
  • Several 2011 players invited to SKC Academy Center of Excellence
  • 2007 Boys brought home the State Cup title
  • 2003 Boys were crowned National USYF Champions,
  • 2008, 2005 and 2003 teams won the USYF Regional Championship
  • 3 players selected for the USYF National Teams that traveled to play in Spain

Chris Wilson

  • Head Coach, 2010 Girls – Navy
  • Head Coach, 2008 Boys – Red

Chris Wilson has over 10 years of coaching experience across age groups and holds US Club and E licenses. He brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to his teams and has a proven record of development.

Chris is always willing to jump in and help his fellow coaches whenever needed.

Brooke Garza

  • Head Coach, 2008 Girls – Elite
  • Head Coach, 2008 Girls – Navy

Brooke Garza has over nine years of experience and holds a D license. She moved into coaching after a successful collegiate career at Hutchinson Community College.

Brooke is a great role model and recently took on the role of Girls Program Coordinator for Sporting Wichita. She leads the way in helping our girls teams continue to grow and develop.

Player Spotlight

David Rodriguez

  • 2007 Boys – Red

David has been playing with Sporting Wichita since he was five years old, following in the footsteps of his brother, Daniel.

David is a hard-working and consistent player. His coach credits him for leading with his actions and coming up big when the team needs him the most.

Ava Moriasi

  • 2012 Girls – Navy

Ava has a natural gift for soccer. Her soccer IQ is beyond that of a nine year old and it always shows on the field. She has excellent stamina and is a very technical and well-rounded player.

Though her natural position is attacking midfielder, Ava is a versatile player who has many strengths to offer her team and club.
