May Academy Affiliate of the Month: Sporting Kaw Valley

Club Bio

Sporting Kaw Valley was established as a non-profit organization in 1982. The club serves nearly 5,000 participants and their families in Lawrence, KS and the surrounding areas.

Various opportunities are available to players 3-19 years old, including recreational, academy and competitive soccer. These programs are available to the Lawrence, Topeka and Manhattan, KS communities.

Sporting Kaw Valley became a Sporting KC Academy Affiliate in 2011 – the first to join the program.

The mission of Sporting Kaw Valley is to enrich lives and connect communities through the sport of soccer. The club’s goal is to be recognized as the most comprehensive soccer organization.

Sporting Kaw Valley values the development of each player, coach and staff member above winning.

Recent Accomplishments

  • One of eight clubs in the United States chosen to join the USL W League as a founding member
  • Multiple players committed to playing collegiate soccer

Coach Spotlight


Jamie Wilson

  • Coach, 2010 Premier Girls
  • Coach, 2011 Premier Girls
  • Coach, 2012 Premier Girls

Jamie has been instrumental in developing players in our Girls Premier program. He tirelessly works to make sure all players are getting the best experience.

Jame ensures that players transition smoothly from recreation to the premier level. He is also a strong mentor for young coaches.

Coaches, players and parents look up to Jamie as he is very committed and determined to help his players be challenged, love the game of soccer and be the best they can be.


Paige Thompson

  • Coach, Sporting Stripes (Topeka)

Paid leads and coaches in the Sporting Stripes program in Topeka and also assists with Sporting Kaw Valley’s indoor winter camps.

Paige is full of energy, lots of smiles, praise and high fives for her Sporting Stripes kiddos.

She is also the Operations Manager for Sporting Kaw Valley, as well as Kaw Valley FC’s men and women’s teams.

Player Spotlight


Brock White

  • 2012 Chrome Nobre (Heartland Divsion 1)

Brock has outstanding ball skills, soccer IQ and is very athletic. He mostly plays as a central defender, but also as a striker. He is great at communicating and organizing his defenders.

Brock has also helped his team gain promotion from Division 4 to Division 1 in Heartland, moving up each season.

This past Spring, Brock was accepted into the Sporting KC Academy’s Center of Excellence.


Kylie Bourne

  • 2009 Miller

Kylie plays as a winger and was also selected by her coach and teammates to be the team captain. She is the prime example of a leader and amazing teammate.

At practices, Kylie is helpful through her guidance and instruction and in games, she is always a positive influence.

Kylie is always ready to work and is focused towards becoming a better individual and to help her team grow with her.
