January Academy Affiliate Club Spotlight: Sporting Iowa

CLUB BIO

Sporting Iowa, in conjunction with West Des Moines Soccer Club (WDMSC) and Johnston Urbandale Soccer Club (JUSC), began their full integration of select in the Fall of 2019. Combining all resources and age groups from U11-U19. WDMSC and JUSC continue to offer recreational and U9/U10 Academy programs. In 2014, WDMSC and JUSC started a partnership with Sporting Kansas City to ensure all our high school aged select players had multiple levels of playing opportunities in their soccer pathway.

Mission: “To facilitate continual growth as a person and player. We are a family committed to excellence through protecting our evolving culture. Sporting Iowa promotes the love for the game through a holistic approach to player development and a growth orientated learning environment led by highly invested and passionate coaches.”

  • 2020 Sporting Academy Affiliate Club of the Year
  • 4 State Cup Champions (Fall 2020)
  • 2 Presidents Cup Champions (Fall 2020)
  • 13 full-sized, fully lit turf soccer complex coming Fall 2021

COACH SPOTLIGHT

RYAN RINK
JUSC Academy Director & U12 Boys Age Group Director

Ryan symbolizes everything we would want in a Sporting Iowa coach. He has a tenacious appetite to develop people and players. Ryan truly cares about every individual involved in the Sporting Iowa Family and will selflessly place the needs of others above his own. We are incredibly fortunate to have Ryan be a part of the family!

AMANDA RUSH
WDMSC Academy Director & U12 Girls Age Group Director

Amanda embodies the true nature of the club’s values. She approaches every day and situation with a strong sense of humbleness, passion and dedication to impacting young lives. She is a constant inspiration to the staff and players alike and oozes the love of her profession. We are extremely proud to have Amanda on the Sporting Iowa team.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

RONAN MURPHY
2002/03 Boys Player

Ronan has been with Sporting Iowa/JUSC since his days in U11. He recently committed to play soccer at Macalester College in Minnesota. Ronan is a high level GK that sees the game very well and has kept his team in several games over the years. Ronan is a great leader on and off the field, constantly thinking of others before himself. He’s an Academic All-State 1st team recipient, AP Scholar, Presidential Honor Roll 3x, and a team captain for club & school.

ELIZABETH SAUNDERS
2003 Girls Player

Elizabeth has been with Sporting Iowa/WDMSC since U11. Elizabeth exudes everything that Sporting Iowa is trying to have graduate out of the program. She is an incredibly intelligent player who can read the game at a high level from CB or as a 6. Elizabeth is an AP Scholar w/ distinction, National Merit Semifinalist, Best Buddies and Student Council President, National Honor Society VP, and a team captain for club and school. She is currently uncommitted.
